Junior Cycle

Dunshaughlin Community College has embraced all aspects of Junior cycle reform. The Key Skills of the Junior Cycle are embedded into our everyday interactions with students.
We are proud to offer our students a broad range of curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular learning opportunities and experiences during the three years of junior cycle.
We are proud of the fact that the vast majority of incoming First Year students successfully secure their first and second choice subjects.
Students are taught in mixed ability classes throughout the curriculum and we have high expectations of all our students and encourage them to achieve their full potential by studying as many Higher Level subjects as possible.
Our curriculum is guided by the 24 Statements of Learning, eight principles and eight key skills which are at the core of Junior Cycle.

Assessment in Junior Cycle:

Assessment arrangements for each subject in junior cycle will comprise a wide range of ongoing assessments as well as the more formal Classroom-based Assessments as well as a final examination at the end of 3rd year. This varied approach to assessment recognises and values the different types of learning that take place in our school and allows for students to show their learning in different ways.
